School Description

Redgate School is a small, special primary school for children with moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties. All pupils have statements of educational needs or education, health and care plans. Approximately three quarters of pupils have a diagnosis of autism. In 2010 Redgate School formed the Debdale Federation with Yeoman Park School. The two schools have a single governing body and share an executive headteacher. Most of the pupils are of White British heritage. Less than one tenth comes from other backgrounds. Approximately 90 per cent of pupils are boys. Over two thirds of pupils are supported by the pupil premium, a much greater proportion than seen nationally. This is additional funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and looked after children. There are five classes in the school, each with a mixed-age range. Children in Nursery and Reception are taught full time in the same class as Year 1 pupils. There is a mixed Year 2 and Year 3 class; a class with pupils from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5; a mixed Year 2, 3, 5 and 6 class and a class with pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
