Oleander Preparatory School is an independent day school situated in Brixton, South London. It is located in a building it shares with the United Reformed Church, but has no affiliation with this organisation. The school caters for boys and girls aged from three to 11 years, taught in three mixed-age classes. The school is registered to admit 40 pupils. At the time of the inspection, there were 29 pupils on roll, and there were almost equal numbers of girls and boys. There are 10 children in the Nursery and Reception class, four of whom attend part time. There are currently no disabled pupils or pupils with a statement of special educational needs on roll. All pupils are from minority ethnic groups, well above the national average proportion. Three quarters of the pupils are of Black African and Black Caribbean heritages. No pupils are looked after. None speak English as an additional language. The school aims to provide a ‘safe, caring and happy environment where everyone is known, valued and encouraged’. The school was founded and registered in 2010. The school received its first inspection in December 2011, when the quality of education was judged to be good.
