School Description

North Bridge House is a group of five independent co-educational day schools in North London, ranging from Nursery through to Sixth Form for ages 2 to 18. Each school is distinctive, contemporary and high-achieving, and successfully prepares children for the next stage in their school career. Children are nurtured and progressed beyond the national average at NBH Nursery and Pre-Prep Schools, before joining NBH Prep where they are set up for outstanding outcomes. We advise on and facilitate every path to success, with pupils either leaving the Prep School at the end of Year 6 (taking the 11+, the Consortium exam or going to one of the North Bridge House Senior Schools), or at the end of Year 8 (taking the Common Pre-Test, the Common Entrance exam or schools’ individual entrance tests).North Bridge House offers a choice of two Senior School campuses at 11+. NBH Senior Hampstead and NBH Senior Canonbury both focus on growing the individual in small classes and celebrate excellent GCSE results. Students are then welcomed into Sixth Form at NBH Canonbury for outstanding, individually tailored A-Level and university preparation.

Average Parent Rating

“Excellent choice!”

My son started in year 7 in Sept 2019 (from a state primary) and is absolutely thriving. He has made some really good friends, is vey happy to go to school each day and is thoroughly enjoying all his new subjects. We were really impressed by how well the teachers knew the children at the first parents' evening last term, and also by the quality of the teaching - in French for example, it's really excellent and very stretching, even better than at my daughter's highly selective secondary school. The drama is also first rate. They really seem to celebrate individuality and we are very pleased indeed with the school.
“Great school!”

My son settled in so quickly – he is in year 9 – and he loves the school. He really likes all of his teachers, and reports that they teach very well. Also extension work is always available in class which is excellent. He's made some good friends too (which he struggled with a bit at his old school). All in all, we are very pleased indeed with the school, and appreciate the ethos which Mr Taylor promotes well - that children are individuals and need to be treated as such and nurtured.

OUR AIMS AND ETHOS

We are a group of five exceptional independent co-educational day schools in North London. Our pupils greatly benefit from an effective, seamless transition from one site to the next as they journey through their education.

Our Aims
  • To create a dynamic learning environment in which all children discover their individual pathway to academic success

  • To equip young people with the confidence, humility and resilience to thrive in everything they do

  • To empower young people to be creative, inspired and to inspire

  • To nurture strong relationships within an inclusive, empathetic community

Our Ethos

We have always believed in the importance of celebrating the individual and, as such, have built our long-standing success on maintaining an environment in which our pupils are happy, confident and proud of their achievements.

We believe in the importance of educating the whole child so that his or her true potential can be fulfilled. With academic work and self-discipline at the centre of school life, we focus on providing a breadth of learning experience that takes pupils much further than the curriculum itself.  Through a wide range of academic and extra-curricular learning experiences, we aim to develop self-awareness and the acquisition of skills needed for adult life. Our continuing objective is an education that prepares our young adults for the future.

WHY CHOOSE OUR SENIOR SCHOOL & SIXTH FORM?

Message from the Executive Headteacher

At North Bridge House Canonbury we are dedicated to providing our students with an outstanding education and to developing happy, confident young adults with the skills to become future leaders. We maintain small class sizes, allowing us to tailor our teaching to meet the needs of every child within our diverse community.

With experts continuing to shed ever-more light on teenage learning patterns and the stages of their brain development, we believe that by effectively harnessing this research we can maximise the potential of each individual. Our work with the Teenage Sleep Foundation and Dr Paul Kelley from the University of Oxford has led us to introduce a later start time for students on a Wednesday, whilst Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and Teenage Mental Health champion, Johnny Benjamin, have informed our pupil support programme and helped us, and the parent body, better understand our teens.

Our team of specialist and dedicated teachers, drawn from a range of prestigious academic and university backgrounds, provide the inspiration our pupils need to realise their academic goals. The focus on academic success is complemented by first class pastoral care and attention to the learning needs of each individual child, while our experienced SENCO ensures our commitment to an inclusive curriculum and teaching strategies attuned to the needs of the whole school community.

To broaden our pupils’ interests and help them develop new and transferable skills, we offer a broad range of activities which enhance their learning and constitute an integral part of our overall educational offering. More than simply ‘extra-curricular’ provision, our timetabled enrichment programme develops transferable skills and interests, with activities varying from Mandarin to Yoga.

Whether your son or daughter is looking to join in Year 12 or Year 7, our provision is built upon a commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of the individual child. For a real insight into what North Bridge House Canonbury has to offer, I encourage families and friends to visit us. Our teachers are always happy to discuss our provision and identify how we can provide the very best all-round education for your son or daughter.
