New Gables is a small independent special school which provides for students in the age range of nine to 16 years with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. The school accepts students who may or may not have a statement of special educational needs. Presently, two of the three students have a statement. All of the students have had large gaps in their education caused by much absence and/or exclusion from previous schools. They are all of White British heritage. Previously owned by Advanced Childcare the school and the adjoining children’s home are now owned by the Cambian Group. Students live in the on-site accommodation or at other homes owned by the company The school aims to ‘provide a positive, safe and caring environment within which young people feel happy and secure in the process of learning; provide a broad and balanced curriculum; raise self-esteem and promote independent learning’. The school has no particular religious affiliation. It was first registered in January 2012 and the first inspection of the school’s education provision took place in November 2012. A material change inspection was carried out in May 2014.
