This 14–19 studio school, which opened in September 2013, is much smaller than the average-sized secondary school. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs or disability is much higher than average. The proportion of pupils supported by the pupil premium is higher than average. This is government funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals or who are in the care of the local authority. The vast majority of pupils are of White British heritage. There is a small number of pupils in alternative provision. The providers used include Southend YMCA Community School, Circles Alternative Education and the Education Business Partnership. In 2015 the school did not meet government floor targets; these are the minimum standards for pupils’ attainment and progress at Key Stage 4. The school is sponsored by Seevic College.
