Independent preparatory schools do not have to follow the National Curriculum or submit test results to the Department for Education so there is no individual school performance data or star rating.

Visit the school's website to learn more about their unique curriculum, policies on testing and common leaver destinations (a good indicator of pupil progress). See our About page for information on Choosing A Prep School.

School Description

Monkton Prep School is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged two to thirteen. It consists of the Prep and Pre-Prep sections of the school. The Prep, formerly known as Monkton Combe Junior School, was founded in 1888, twenty years after Monkton Senior School. It is an evangelical Christian foundation. It moved to its present site in 1907, on the top of Combe Down, overlooking the valley in which the senior school is situated. Initially for boys only, aged 7 to 13, it became co-educational in 1993.

TRANSFORMATION AT MONKTON PRE-PREP

Big things are happening at Monkton Pre-Prep as the school embarks on an ambitious programme of expansion and transformation. Construction is well underway on a new £4.4 million Pre-Prep development which will bring together Monkton’s Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep and provide enhanced teaching and learning facilities for all divisions of the school.

Demand for places at Monkton Pre-Prep has been growing and the new building, which is scheduled to open in Autumn this year, will accommodate additional places whilst enabling the school to maintain small class sizes alongside inspiring play and woodland areas, an upgraded swimming pool and sports facilities, and extensive parking.

A new school bus service has just been launched and the Pre-Prep has started a new breakfast club running every morning from 7.45am with after school care running until 6.00pm.

The start of the new development follows the school being recognised as an exceptional Early Years care provider when it was  awarded ‘outstanding’ in a recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection report as well as receiving the Bristol Standard, a ‘gold standard’ accreditation from Bristol City Council which recognises continuous quality improvement.
