Monks Eleigh Primary is much smaller than the average-sized primary school. The school has almost completed the change to an all-through primary. From September 2013, the school will have its first pupils in Year 6. There are no pupils in Year 1 and other year groups are very small. The largest group is 10 children in the Reception Year. There are three classes and two qualified teachers: one for pupils in Key Stage 1 and one for pupils in Key Stage 2. The Reception class is taught by a nursery nurse under the direction of the Early Years Foundation Stage leader of Boxford School. Since the last inspection, there have been three headteachers, two of whom have been parttime. By July 2011, the school roll had dropped to 17 pupils but has risen since then to 30 pupils. The governing body sought and agreed a federation with Boxford Primary School, which started in September 2011. The two schools have separate governing bodies and budgets. The headteacher and deputy headteacher of Boxford Primary School are the executive headteacher and executive deputy headteacher of Monks Eleigh Primary School. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs supported through school action is average. The proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is broadly average. The school uses alternative provision for part of the week for a very small number of pupils at First Base Pupil Referral Unit. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for the pupil premium is below average. This extra funding is for looked after children, those known to be eligible for free school meals and pupils with a parent in the armed forces.
