This is a very small residential independent special school in Kettering for students with autism. The school opened in November 2013 and admitted its first student in December 2013. This is the school’s first inspection. The school is registered for up to six boys or girls aged between eight and 16 years. The three students currently on roll all have a statement of special educational needs related to their autism and severe learning difficulties. Some students in the past year have been working at higher levels of attainment. All are day students and are presently funded by Northamptonshire County Council. Students are mostly taught individually. They have had disrupted schooling prior to entry at this school because of periods of exclusion and poor attendance. Since it opened, the school has had some periods of time without a headteacher and has had a number of changes of staff. An operations manager has oversight of some aspects of the school such as staff appointments, resources, accommodation, the safety of the site and the pastoral care of staff. He does not have responsibility for the school’s curriculum, teaching, assessment or students’ achievement. Since it opened in November 2013, two headteachers have left the school. The third headteacher took up the post on the first day of this inspection. The school does not have a governing body and does not use alternative provision.
