The school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. Over half of the pupils are supported by the pupil premium (additional government funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, pupils with a parent in the armed forces and those looked after by the local authority). This is well above average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs supported at school action is above average. The proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is also above average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. In March 2012, the school was judged to require special measures. The school has received monitoring visits, led by one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors, in September 2012, January 2013, May 2013 and September 2013. Over the last year the school has been supported by a seconded deputy headteacher from St John Bosco Catholic Primary School Sandwell, who is also a local leader of education (LLE).
