This junior school is larger than the average-sized primary school. The majority of pupils attending the school are from White British backgrounds. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs or disability is below average. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils supported by the pupil premium (additional government funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after by the local authority) is below average. Pupils are taught in single year group classes. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which are the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics. The school is federated with the adjacent infant school. There have been significant changes in leadership and teaching, and much uncertainty about the position of headteacher since the previous inspection. The new substantive headteacher was officially appointed in February this year after serving in an acting headteacher role for the previous three terms. The work of both schools in the federation is now overseen by the headteacher and a single governing body. Leadership in each school is also aided by an assistant-headteacher.
