School Description

Glemsford is a smaller than average-sized primary school. Provision includes part-time education for children of nursery age. A children’s centre and a private part-time playgroup share the school site. These are run independently and are inspected separately. Most pupils are White British. The proportions of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds and those who speak English as an additional language are well below the national figures. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils eligible for the pupil premium (extra government funding to support particular groups of pupils) is higher than the average for primary schools. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs, at 20%, is above average. Since placed in special measures in October 2012, the school has been led by two acting headteachers followed by the current substantive headteacher, who joined at the start of the summer term 2013. The governing body, established at the start of the spring term 2014, replaced an interim executive board set up by the local authority. On 1 January 2015, the school is scheduled to become an academy sponsored by the Samuel Ward Multi-Academy Trust. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set minimum expectations for pupils’ progress and attainment by the end of Year 6.
