School Description

Foxes Fields is a small co-educational special school that took its first students in 2014. It is located in an urban setting in Minehead, alongside the children’s home where the students live. The school’s proprietor operates the children’s home, as well as a specialist further education college. The proprietor’s administrative offices are located in the same building as the school. An inspection of the children’s home took place at the same time as this inspection of the school. Both reports are available at www.ofsted.gov.uk. The head of school is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the school, under the direction of the Principal. The Principal also provides leadership for the children’s home and the further education college. There are currently no middle leaders in the school. The school is registered for up to 15 male and female students aged from 11 to 19 years. Currently, two male students are on roll. All students have complex learning and behavioural difficulties, and one has a statement of special educational needs. All are in the care of their local authority. Students are placed in the school by various local authorities from across the south of England. The school states that it ‘provides an education that is personalised, ‘young person centred’, therapeutic, and tailored to the needs, interests and abilities of the young people themselves’. It aims to ‘nurture and teach the young people the skills they need to live inspired and fulfilling lives’. The school provides for Key Stages 3 and 4 students, as well those in the sixth form. The latter is for students above the statutory school leaving age. The school makes use of the proprietor’s further education college, Foxes Academy, to extend the range of learning opportunities available for students. This is the school’s first inspection.
