School Description

The school is a larger than average-sized junior school. It is federated with Fernwood Infant School which is on the same site. Most pupils move to the school from Fernwood Infant School at the start of Year 3. There is one executive headteacher and governing body who work across the federation. A head of school oversees the day to day running of the school. The proportion of pupils from ethnic minority groups is above the national average as is the number of pupils who speak English as an additional language. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs on the school roll is about 4 percent. This is lower than found in most schools. The percentage of children for whom the school receives the pupil premium (additional government funding for particular groups, including those known to be eligible for free school meals) is below average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils attainment and progress in English and mathematics. The executive headteacher is a National Leader in Education and supports other headteachers across Nottingham City. In addition the school is a national support school and senior leaders and teachers train teachers in other schools. The school provides a well-attended before and after school club. The school makes limited use of Oak Field School and Specialist Sports College What does the school need to do to improve further? Further develop the skills of subject leaders, who are new to their roles, so that they play an even greater part in the schools continuing drive to improve.
