School Description

The centre is an independent day school which provides vocational and skills based learning for up to 60 students, aged 14 to 18 years. Some of the students attend full time, others part time, depending on their needs. The amount of time students attend varies in relation to their needs. All but two students are over the age of 16 years and are, therefore, part of the sixth form. Sixth form students and the two Key Stage 4 students are taught in classes together. Although not registered as a special school, almost all students have social emotional and mental health needs. Sometimes the centre provides for students who have an education, health and care plan; although there are no students attending who currently have a plan. The centre also caters for ‘Restart’ students who are resuming education after sustained periods of nonattendance at school. There are currently no students who come from minority ethnic backgrounds or who speak English as an additional language. Some students come from the Traveller community. The centre is part of group of centres spread across the country operated by Education and Youth Services Limited. The centre is accommodated in two refurbished industrial units on the outskirts of Wisbech. Minibuses are provided to carry students from their homes to the centre and to off-site activities. The centre does not make use of any alternative provision for its students. This is the first inspection of the centre since its opening in May 2014.
