School Description

Eagleswell Primary School is in the town of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan. Just over 180 pupils aged between the ages of four and 11 attend the school full-time. A further 31 pupils attend the nursery on a part time basis. Twenty-one per cent of pupils are entitled to free school meals. Nearly all pupils are of white British ethnicity. A very few pupil speak English as an additional language. No pupil speaks Welsh at home. The school identifies that around 35% of pupils have additional learning needs; this is higher than the average for Wales and the local authority. No pupil has a statement of special educational needs. No pupils are looked after by the local authority. The inspection of March 2008 judged the school as in need of significant improvement. When re-inspected in June 2009, progress was sufficient to remove the school from this category. Since the last inspection, there have been four changes of headteacher. The current headteacher took up the substantive post in January 2012 after a period of secondment to the school The individual school budget per pupil for Eagleswell Primary in 2013-2014 means that the budget is £4,026 per pupil. The maximum per pupil in the primary schools in the Vale of Glamorgan is £7,758 and the minimum is £2,718. Eagleswell Primary is ninth out of the 48 primary schools in the Vale of Glamorgan, in terms of its school budget per pupil.
