School Description

Building Young People’s Potential is an independent special school which opened in 2002. It provides for students who make a positive choice to come to the school after having been permanently excluded or deemed to be at great risk of exclusion from a maintained school. It is located in a small building on the edge of a playing field in Blacon, near Chester, but also has access to two other sites where vocational training is available. At the time of the inspection there were eight students aged from 14 to 16 years of age on roll, five of whom have a statement of special educational needs, relating mainly to behavioural issues. One student is from a minority ethnic community. It is registered for up to 12 students aged 14 to 16 years of age. Its aim is ‘to engage, motivate and inspire young people who are struggling today towards brighter futures through holistic learning programmes today for a healthy tomorrow’, by providing a family atmosphere with a sense of belonging, and an environment to re-engage young people in learning. The school’s last inspection was in 2008.
