The college is larger than the average-sized secondary school. The proportion of students who are disabled or who have special educational needs supported through school action is above average. The proportion who are supported through school action plus or have statements of special education needs is also above average. The proportion of students known to be eligible for the pupil premium is above average. The pupil premium provides additional funding for students known to be eligible for free school meals and looked after children. An above average number of children are eligible for Year 7 catch-up funding which is for students who did not achieve the expected level in reading or mathematics at the end of Key Stage 2. The college meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics. The college has special resourced provision to support 35 students on the autistic spectrum and 20 places to support those with physical disabilities. A number of students pursue vocational courses within the South East Bristol local partnership. Students study courses such as animal care, engineering and construction at The Park and Ashley Down, and also hair services at Reflections. The college works within the local authority’s post-16 plan to deliver vocational courses for a small number of students. College leaders and governors are currently negotiating with a potential sponsor, with a view to conversion to academy status.
