The Badminton School Board are delighted to welcome Mrs Jessica Miles as the new Head of the School.
Mr Justin Lewis, Chair of Governors at Badminton said: “Mrs Miles brings with her a wealth of experience in leading girls boarding and day schools. She is a fierce advocate of single-sex education, particularly for girls, and we were impressed by her strong alignment to Badminton’s vision and values.”
Mrs Miles expressed her excitement of being the new Head at Badminton, stating: “I am thrilled to have the great privilege of being the new Head at Badminton; a School that has a remarkable history, a vibrant community, and at which girls know their individuality will be celebrated and their learning expanded far beyond the classroom. I look forward to stewarding this great School into the next chapter of its history.”

Jessica took up her position at Badminton in the Summer Term 2023. She was previously Head at Monmouth School for Girls and prior to that, Head at Queen Margaret’s School, a girl's day and boarding school in York. She started her career at Dulwich College, London where she was Head of Spanish, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and Mistress in charge of Rowing. After 12 years at Dulwich, she moved with her husband and young family to Dorset, where she taught briefly at Sherborne School, before taking up the role of Deputy Head at Leweston School, a girls day and boarding school on the outskirts of Sherborne. Passionate about girls’ single-sex education she is delighted to be at Badminton.
Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?
My love of Spain and all things Spanish. A true passion that I simply wanted to share with everyone and teaching seemed to be the obvious way to do it. Also, an inability in my early twenties to know what I really wanted to do – until a stint as a tutor of A level Spanish in a London ‘crammer’ college made me realise that I had found something I was quite good at. Alongside that, some very happy memories of my own school days where I was nurtured and supported, encouraged and challenged. I benefited from a truly holistic education where I was able to indulge in my love of drama, play mediocre tennis and make friendships that have endured.
What achievement are you most proud of as Head?
Guiding the schools, communities and families that I have served as Head through turbulent times with, I hope, a style of leadership that shows that you can be kind yet strong, firm but fair. I am also proud of the fact that those schools have guided and educated phenomenal young women who have gone on to achieve brilliant things in their lives. They are above all really kind and likeable people!
What does a successful school look like to you?
A school that exudes joy, vitality and a unity of thought and aspiration.
What is the most important quality you want every child to have when they leave your school? And why?
Self-belief, integrity and kindness.
