School Description

Ash Trees School is a community special school. Pupils attend between the ages of four and 11 and have a range of difficulties which affect their ability to learn. The majority of pupils are from Stockton and surrounding areas, with a small number from neighbouring authorities. Since the previous inspection there have been several staff changes within the senior leadership team including the appointment of an acting assistant headteacher. The vast majority of pupils are of White British heritage, with a small number from other ethnic backgrounds. Pupils are educated in mixed-age classes dependent on their ability and levels of need. A higher-than-average proportion of pupils is eligible for the pupil premium (which provides additional funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, those in the care of the local authority and those from service families). All pupils who attend have a statement of special educational needs. The school has been awarded several accreditations including an Autism Accreditation and Healthy School award.
