The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

"> My eldest child has just left 6th form; he's been there since year 7 (having stayed an extra year as he really didn't want to go). I have another child still in 6th form and one just started year 7. I have two more children to go and I won't be sending them anywhere else. I love how this school treats every child as an individual, they understand that all children are different and really work on individual strengths. I had put my eldest down for Wellington Road and I'm thankful he was out of area. To me a happy child is one that will learn and my children can't wait to get to school. I cannot praise the school enough.

"> Amazing school, the support offered to pupils lacking in confidence and with medical problems is outstanding. My son who has a medical condition feels happy going to school knowing he is going to be well cared for whilst still encouraged to actively take part in all aspects of school life. The staff have also been very understanding and supportive with me also. I really could not ask for more. My son enjoys school, is always keen to go everyday. Homework is well explained and regular. My son is making steady progress and gaining in confidence. So happy I chose AC for my son 10/10 👍

"> I have had 2 children at the school, both from year 7, one started in 2009 and one in 2011. My daughter finished 6th form this year with the equivalent of 5 A levels at grades A-c.(A combination of A levels and btec subsidiary diplomas.) She has now gone onto university. My son gained 13 GCSE this summer, the majority at A/A* and is now in the sixth form. I have always found the pastoral care excellent, the teaching staff dynamic and the school has a friendly atmosphere. I have always been delighted with the school, and feel it deserves it's outstanding status. They aim to get the best out of each pupil, whether that be 10A's or 5 C's. Because it is a non selective school you are always going to get the kids who don't want to work but if your child is prepared to put the work in they will achieve highly at this school, without the excessive pressures the grammar schools apply. I have never had a problem using the learning gateway, it is simple and straightforward.
“Not outstanding!”

"> My son has just started year 11. The school was rated outstanding by Ofsted when he started but the experience has been the complete opposite. Communication is horrendous. They introduced the Learning Gateway a couple of years ago and it's the most un-user friendly platform ever encountered. The links for user support go no where and emails requesting password reset go unanswered. When you are in it to find letters and reports it's not in an easy to find location. He was limited to what options he could take making it so that he had no chance to go on to sixth form and when he chose his options, was then put in others that he hadn't chosen and had absolutely no interest in. The staff are unfriendly, impatient and unhelpful. I wish I had gone with my gut and transferred him out years ago. I certainly won't be sending his sibling there.

"> Outstanding school when my daughter started there in 2011 but year on year this status has gradually reduced. The school also changed to an academy and the number of pupils has increased.
