School Description

Alexanders International School is an independent co-educational residential college and caters for up to 120 students aged between 11 and 17 years. It was established in 1975 and moved to its present location in an area of outstanding beauty on the Suffolk coast in 1994. The college provides all year round education and accommodation. Most students attend for one year, completing a foundation course, which includes intensive English study. Students also have the opportunity to study a range of national qualifications, including GCSEs, over a one or two year period. The college also provides a short course during the summer holidays for students registered at other boarding schools to improve their English language skills. Almost all students leave the college to take up a place in other boarding schools in the United Kingdom. Students have a diverse cultural heritage and all speak English as an additional language. They originate from overseas countries, including, China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Spain and France. For many students this is their first experience of life in the United Kingdom. There are no students who have a statement of special educational needs. The college identifies students who have additional learning difficulties. The college aims to create an atmosphere where each young person can develop educationally and emotionally in a safe, caring environment. Their primary goal is to prepare young people to move confidently on to schools, colleges or universities in the United Kingdom. The college was last inspected in October 2010. Since then the proprietors and the headteacher have appointed a new director of learning, a deputy director of learning and a head of boarding provision.
