This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Cranbrook Primary is smaller than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for pupil premium funding is much higher than average. The majority of pupils are of White British heritage. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities is similar to the national average. Children in the early years are taught in one full-time Reception class. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which are the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress by the end of Year 6. The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. There has been a huge turnover of staff since the previous inspection. The Inspection report: Cranbrook Church of England Primary School, 25–26 April 2017 Page 9 of 12 headteacher became the acting headteacher in May 2016 and the substantive headteacher in September 2016. The deputy headteacher and inclusion manager were appointed in January 2017. Only one teacher currently in school was in post at the time of the previous inspection.

“This is a great school”

"> We moved to Cranbrook in September 2014 and are very happy with this school. The comments and information on this site don't seem to reflect the school as we believe it currently is. There is a really positive vibe, pupil numbers are increasing not decreasing, there has been a massive turnaround in behaviour and attitudes to learning, and expectations from the teachers and parents are high. Both my children love it here and are doing very well. I would strongly recommend a visit to the school for anyone thinking of attending. My children's previous school is rated 4* on this sight, but Cranbrook primary is giving them a much better well-rounded education and really supporting them to thrive, so I would not recommend making judgements based on the ratings on this site - go and visit and see for yourself!
“On the up”

"> My children attend this school and are very happy there (and making excellent progress!). Following a very disappointing OFSTED inspection in Nov 2013, a new Head Teacher has been leading the school since March 2014 and things have really begun to turn around. Staffing is now stable, despite what has been written in the info above (ie, it's out of date) with the most recent HMI visit being very positive about the teaching and learning observed (Good and Outstanding judgments).I would definitely recommend a visit if you are local to Cranbrook.
