His teaching career began in 1982 at Aldro (Surrey; IAPS) where he taught French, took on running the RE department and was also school organist; after two years running his own language department at Maidwell Hall (Northants; IAPS, 1989-91) he returned to Oxford in a similar role at New College School (IAPS/CSA; fd. 1379) where he set up an international cultural exchange to Caen in Normandy.

After science A Levels in 1975, I studied zoology at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. On graduating, I joined what is now PriceWaterhouse Coopers in London, qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1982. I become a tax specialist and started my own practice in 1991. I lectured, conducted seminars and taught students throughout this time.
I had cause to dabble in maths throughout my degree and professional qualifications but I only took it further in 2006, teaching myself A Level in a year. I went on to take a First-class BA in mathematics and I am currently doing postgraduate study in topics of pure mathematics (so I can relate to the delights of being a maths student today!)
I started tutoring maths in 2009 and run this service alongside my accountancy practice.
