The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Pupils enjoy being part of the close-knit community at Chetwynde School. Staff know pupils well and understand their needs. Staff ensure that pupils feel involved and included in school life. Pupils are helped to develop positive behaviours. They follow well-established routines. This ensures that pupils enjoy a calm and orderly atmosphere in lessons and around the school site. Across the primary and secondary age-phases, staff have appropriately high expectations of what pupils should learn and can achieve. Pupils are well supported to realise these expectations. They typically achieve well. Pupils understand the importance of developing respect, responsibility and resilience. They have good relationships with each other and with staff. Typically, pupils show a commitment to looking after each other. They are appropriately supported by staff when occasionally there are small incidents of unkindness. Pupils of all ages are eager to learn beyond the curriculum through the clubs and sporting opportunities that are on offer. This helps pupils to develop their confidence and to strengthen their talents. For example, pupils particularly enjoy the opportunities to take part in school productions and singing events with other schools.

“My children love going to school”

unlock
"> Both of my children love this school. I have 2 children attending the Primary school and they both love going and every year they think that their current teacher is the best teacher in the world. Both have fantastic friendship groups and are constantly encouraged academically to achieve their best. There is also a great sense of being part of the Chetwynde family, where all parents want the best for the whole school and support it wherever possible. I'm so glad that we got our places; it's a brilliant thriving school which I'm sure your children would love as much we do.
“More than a school”

"> Excellent school. My son has attended Chetwynde since he was 3 years old, he has just completed his A levels and is awaiting results having achieved 13 GCSEs 2 years ago 11 A/A* and 2 B's. We are obviously delighted with the academic side of the school. The teachers are amazing – always willing to go the extra mile to support the children – but it's more than that: it's a family. It may not have brand new windows and spotless paint work, and sometimes letters may go astray en route home but I for one have never prioritised things like this. A happy, confident and well-educated child has always been at the top of my list. So if this sounds like you, then Chetwynde is definitely the school for your child.
